2013 Historic Calendar: The 2013 Historic Garden Home Neighborhoods calendar sold well. It is a real keepsake and is filled with vintage photos and memoirs. We also find out why many of the streets in G.H. were named. The calendars are available in the G.H. Library or at Lamb’s Thriftway for $12. By mail, the calendars are $15 apiece. You may send a check, payable to Garden Home History Project, to our Treasurer: Patsy VandeVenter, 7520 SW Ashdale Court, Portland, OR 97223. Great holiday gifts!
We’re remembering what fun we had at the October Centennial Celebration of Garden Home School. We had about 125 people who succcessfully put names to the student photos, discussed the displays, told us their stories about Garden Home, greeted old friends, enjoyed the coffee, donuts and lunch, watched the slide shows, and learned about the history of Garden Home School. One woman said “There’s so much to see and do that I’m not sure I saw it all!”
New Stories: Going on our website: Sally Peyton Ford, Schanen-Zolling house, Unitarian Fellowship, Dickson family, Clark Martin, Lyle Toad Tate, Don Dunbar, Friendship Circle under G.H. Methodist Church, and another eyewitness report from Alta Hansen on the plane crash. And more to come from the stories told our transcribers at Oct. Centennial.
Historic G.H. Street signs: Washington County has temporarily discontinued these signs while they revise their procedures. So no more Historic Garden Home signs for now. Thanks for over 30 that are up in the community.
