Ring the bell – November 11, 2023
Commemorate Veterans Day by ringing the bell at Trader Joe’s. November 11, 11 am to 1 pm. We remember all the veterans including Lyle “Toad” Tate, the Garden Home Marine killed in Vietnam. The bell at Trader Joe’s has rung for 105 years to announce and remember significant events in Garden Home. Come and ring the bell!
Library display of Kent Haley watercolors depicting the Oregon Electric Railway – September 30, 2023
The community and the family of artist Kent Haley (obituary) were invited to the September 30 Installation Event of four watercolor train pictures on our Library’s wall for this Fall, with a presentation by Stan Houseman.
Artist Kent Haley’s four lovely watercolors depict the Oregon Electric trains that went through Garden Home in early 1900s. These pictures came to us through Harold Gjerman, our “train man,” who has worked with us on train history. These four pictures are now installed along the computer wall, leading to the History Corner which has the rotating displays of Garden Home history. Kent Haley’s family and others joined us for this installation.
We invite you all to see the display in the Library. The display tentatively will run through the end of the year. Use the library entrance in the south end of the Garden Home Recreation Center.
